SAINT HELENA
AM237
Postal History 1909 (April) picture postcard (black and white illustration “Removal of Napoleons Body from St. Helena, October 15th 1840.”) addressed to South Africa and bearing a single KEVII ½d brown and grey-green (SG 55) tied by ST HELENA (19 Apr) single circle datestamp. Pietermaritzburg (30 Apr) arrival datestamp struck on the front. ‘POST CARD’ has been deleted with a typewritten dashed line and the words ‘PRINTED’ and ‘MATTER’ added either side. Surprisingly, the card was apparently accepted at this reduced rate as no deficiency was noted. Scarce and unusual usage.
