AC618
Postal History / GRIQUALAND WEST / Cape period 1882 (March), envelope addressed to Germany, bearing a pair of 3d deep claret (SG 39a) and a Griqualand West ½d grey-black with small ‘G’ overprint (SG 24) all tied by Cape Town (21 Mar) squared circle datestamps. With Cape Town ‘2½d’ accountancy mark struck in red. One stamp removed (probably a 1d), though still a very attractive franking. A scarce example of a Griqualand West stamp used after the stamps were redistributed following the merger with Cape Colony. Ottensen (18 Apr) arrival backstamp.
