PORTUGUESE MINE STAMP 1925-29 Revenue / accounting stamp printed in dull yellow (perf 10) with the inscription REPUBLICA PORTUGUESA / CURADORIA dos INDIGENAS’ (Curator for the Indigenous) and ‘36 shillings & 6d’ with ‘36/6’ in the upper corners. Overprinted MINES and ‘53333’ in black and cancelled with part of a Johannesburg datestamp struck in violet. Presumably relates to Mozambican miners working in Johannesburg. Light corner crease, otherwise very fine. A recent discovery. Intriguing.
