| 1843 1st August, two page entire dated internally, and relates the economic plight of Nevis at the time and the threadbare existence of the writer, one Alexander MacKechnie. Addressed to his uncle in Glasgow of the same surname and entering the formal mail system at Bristol on the 31st August 1843 where it had a manuscript marking of '2d'. Further endorsed at left 'Missent to Cathcart' and finally reaching Glasgow on the 2nd September 1843, receiving three different backstamps for the same day. A fascinating early letter. Very scarce. |
