1917 (29th December), official envelope of ‘THE BEIRA AND MASHONALAND & RHODESIA RAILWAYS’ (printed across the top). Addressed to South Africa and bearing a single Admiral 1½d (SG 198) tied by two clear strikes of PAULINGTON (29 Dec) double circle datestamps. The reverse bearing an oval cachet of the B&M&R Railways incorporating the wording ‘Loco Supt’s Office / 28 DEC. 1917 / UMTALI’, struck in violet. With an Umtali (29 Dec) datestamp, also struck on the reverse. Neatly opened on three sides for display. A lovely railway item.
 
Note: Paulington was a sub-office of Umtali and was named after George Pauling, the railway contractor and pioneer.
