Postal History 1839 (March), incoming outer wrapper sent from Liverpool on the 8th March (pencil annotation on reverse). Addressed to Grahamstown and charged 1s 4d, being the letter rate from England to the Cape of Good Hope which is shown by a large manuscript ‘1/4’ on the front. Bearing a framed rectangular ‘TO PAY’ marking applied in Grahamstown (35mm long as against the 37mm of Cape Town).
