1913 15th January, stampless cover printed at top ‘ON THE PUBLIC SERVICE’ (embossed BRITISH SOUTH AFRICA COMPANY oval on reverse flap), cancelled ‘SALISBURY’ and sent registered to Gwelo. Struck lower left violet oval ‘REGISTRAR OF THE HIGH COURT (signed)’, then endorsed in red ink ‘Unknown / Unclaimed’. Duly returned receiving crisp ‘RETURNED LETTER BRANCH / G.P.O. SALISBURY 8 MAY’ backstamp. The original enclosure being a printed ‘Sheriff’s Sale’ notice detailing four blocks each of 10 gold mining claims situated in the District of Gwelo. A remarkable survivor.
