Postal History (South African Occupation) 1916 (28th June), registered envelope addressed to Switzerland. Bearing a strip of three King’s Head 3d black and orange-red (SG 8) tied by a WINDHOEK (28 Jun) single circle datestamps (converted early German canceller with variety ‘raised stop after day’) with a further strike on the reverse and with German period ‘Windhuk / Deutsch-Südwestafrika.’ registration label. The cover was censored and shows a PASSED CENSOR / C.14. circular cachet and was resealed with two red on white ‘Opened by Censor. / Geopend door Censor. / 99’ labels affixed at top and tied by a ‘CENSOR / CAPE TOWN’ (6 Jul) oval datestamp (word/s before Censor’ have been excised). The labels are also tied by a Bern (2 Aug) arrival backstamp.
