SOUTH AFRICA / Postage Dues 1980 (25th November), envelope bearing 5c ‘Leipoldt’ (SG 479) tied by a Johannesburg (25 Nov) datestamp. The envelope was underpaid and received a circular ‘T/10c’ taxe marking and the shortfall was receipted by a pair of 2c and a 6c postage due (SG D76, D78) which were affixed and tied by a Port Elizabeth (1 Dec) datestamp. Also showing an official boxed cachet struck in pink. This postage due issue is very scarce on cover. SG note “The printing of Postage Due Stamps ceased in 1978. Isolated examples are known used as late as 1980."
