1902 De La Rue DIE PROOF for the KEVII 1d duty working die with the unissued wording ‘POSTAGE & REVENUE’. Printed in black on glazed card (92x60mm). Handstamped ‘BEFORE HARDENING’ in black and datestamped ‘13 JUN. 02’ in blue.

Note: although proofs for a 1d duty inscribed ‘POSTAGE & REVENUE’ were prepared and a plate of 240 units produced, it was never put into production owing to a decision in September 1902 by the ORC Government that “all the denominations should be ‘Postage’ only, not ‘Postage and Revenue’”. This 1d plate (with the Head plate) was however used to produce colour trials in July 1902 as that was the only duty plate then available. The large dots either side of the Crown no longer appear. These were later replaced with smaller dots for the monocolour duties.
