POSTAL HISTORY 1896 OFS ‘Brief Kaart’ with ½d chestnut postcard stamp (SG P2b) and normal ½d chestnut (SG 48) both affixed and tied by Bloemfontein (11 Jan) squared circle datestamps. The reverse with printed bank communication. Addressed to Pretoria and bearing an unusual large boxed instructional cachet struck in reddish purple, reading “Om Mis-Sorteering, Vertraging en / mogelijk verlies te voorkomen wordt / gij verzocht alle correspondentie aan / het nommer der bus te adresseeren.” (roughly translated as “To prevent mis-sorting, delay and possible loss, it is requested all correspondence is addressed to the box number”). This is presumably a ZAR cachet applied on arrival in Pretoria. Very rare and apparently a previously unrecorded marking.
