1896-97 LARGE ARMS, DIE I, SG 29-37  -  STAMPS

1896 composite set from Die I and Die II, ½d to 10/- (13 stamps, no 2/-). Die I 1d, 2d, 3d, 4d, 6d, 8d, 1/-, 3/- and 4/- with the balance Die II. Each hand stamped 'Specimen', Samuel Type R2, 14.5 mm long, 2.75 and 1.75mm high. Without gum and odd minor faults. RARE.
 
Note: Samuel records this handstamp on 12 values: 1d to 4/- on Die I and 2/6, 5/- and 10/- Die II. Further noted that the ½d also exists. Recorded as being shown by Dr N A Daniel of Rhodesia to Samuel, originating from a collection of an Australian engraver who settled in Rhodesia and to whom they were officially presented. It may well be that this is the same set referred to
