1942 (12th June), envelope addressed to ‘P.O. PITSENG / LERIBE / BASUTOLAND’ from a Basuto serving with the armed forces in Lebanon, the writer probably being a member of the Auxiliary African Pioneer Corps (AAPC). The envelope was sent via registered airmail and is franked with an Australian 1d and 9d (SG 180, 173), tied by an 'AUS FPO 34' (12 JU) skeleton type datestamp with a further strike on the reverse. F.P.O. 34 was then located at Tripoli in Lebanon. With boxed ‘… ARMY POSTAL SERVICES / F.P.O. No. 34’ cachet struck in violet. Endorsed ‘Sesuto’ (for censorship reasons) at upper left and with crowned circular censor cachet ‘No. / 1723’ with countersignature at lower left. Army Post Office (15 JU), Leribe (23 VI) and Pitseng (23 Jun) transit / arrival backstamp. Scarce.
