| 1890 (24th October), ‘Burmester’ envelope with original contents addressed to Cape Town. Bearing two ‘Vurtheim’ 1d rose (SG 176b) tied by JOHANNESBURG (24 Oct) single circle datestamps. Cape Town (29 Oct) arrival backstamp. The reverse with usual receiver’s manuscript annotations and a few light stains, otherwise a clean and attractive example of the 2d per half ounce letter rate to the Cape Colony. |
