1955 1st August, incoming airmail envelope bearing Malaya 10c definitive (Pahang, SG 61), cancelled 'MENTAKAB'. Addressed to one Fimene Mwatifunsa, Lusaka. Endorsed at top 'Forces Mail, and reverse sent from one Watsoni Chinda, Signal Platoon, tac HQ.I.N.R.R., GPO Menta Kaub. Highly unusual.
Note: during the Malayan Emergency 1948-1960, a number of Commonwealth countries fought alongside those from Great Britain. These included from Rhodesia and Nyasaland. The 1st Battalion Northern Rhodesia Regiment were stationed in Pahang, and all mail posted was at the concessional rate of 10c and processed through the normal civilian mail service. |
