| 1895 (3rd January), envelope addressed to El Paso, Texas. Bearing 1892-93 Arms 1d black and 6d deep blue pair (SG 1, 3) each tied by GUBULAWAYO (JA 3) single circle datestamp. Cape Town (28 Jan) transit and United States (2 Mar) arrival backstamps. A few minor edge faults, otherwise a very fine example of the double 6½d per half ounce rate to the USA. A most unusual destination in this early period. |
