Postal History 1882 (4th December), incoming envelope from England addressed to ‘The Assistant Adjutant General / Colonial Forces / Cape Town’, and readdressed to King Williams Town. Bearing a single QV 6d grey (plate 18, SG 161) tied by a very fine Crewe / ‘960’ (27 Feb) duplex cancellation. The adhesive additionally tied by a large oval datestamp AUDIT OFFICE / ORIGINAL / 6 DE 83 / CAPE OF GOOD HOPE struck in purple. Betley (4 Dec), Cape Town (28 Dec) and King Williams Town (2 Jan) transit / arrival backstamps. The envelope foreshortened by about 1cm at left (not affecting backstamps), otherwise very fine.
