| 2002 (5th February), envelope addressed to the BBC in London. Bearing K100, K1000 (Pair) and K1400 adhesives on the front all tied by MANDA HILL, LUSAKA (5 Feb) oval datestamps struck in blue, with and a further 12 x K1000 affixed on the reverse which were not cancelled. The reverse with a Lusaka (8 Feb) datestamp. On arrival, the envelope received a small ‘CHECKED / 7’ cachet in blue. This is an inspection mark applied by a private company to incoming mail following an anthrax alert at the BBC in October 2001. Edge crumpling and the reverse with sellotape on flap (probably applied during inspection) torn through damaging two adhesives. Unusual. |
