| 1900 (11th August) Anglo-Boer War 'MACHADODORP' 1d red postal stationery card addressed to Holland. The imprinted stamp is cancelled with WATERVAL ONDER (11 AUG) double circle datestamps. The message is headed ‘Waterval Onder 10. VIII. 1900’. No backstamps. 5000 of these cards were printed at Machadodorp in early June 1900 following the British capture of Pretoria and the retreat of the Boer Government to Machadodorp. They were used by various Boer controlled Post offices in the eastern Transvaal between June and September 1900. Very fine. |
