POSTAL HISTORY 1893 (27th May), envelope bearing 2d and 1/-, each cancelled 'VREDE MY 27 / 93' sc datestamps, apparently paying the correct 2 x 4d double rate plus 6d registration fee, addressed to Holland. Struck at top with black boxed 'Geregistreerd No ....' in fancy script, endorsed in ink '240' but then cancelled. Forwarded on via Bloemfontein receiving a crisp oval date stamp for the 1st June, a red London oval dated 26th June and Amsterdam arrival on the back dated 27th June. Apparently travelled on the Union liner Spartan which sailed on the 7th June, arriving in Southampton on the 25th. Some light staining. Most unusual and attractive.
