1917 (28th February), censored WWI period sepia picture postcard titled ‘The Esplanade Durban’. Addressed to the USA, bearing a single KGV 1d rose-red (SG 4) affixed to the view side and tied by a PATRIOTS KLIP (28 Feb) single circle datestamp with an additional strike alongside. The reverse with JAMES TOWN (28 Feb) transit datestamp and also a PASSED CENSOR / 18 / 99 circular cachet struck in blue. Putzel / Visser (Vol 8) state ‘No postmark seen’ though two examples were subsequently recorded in the online addendum. Very fine and scarce.
