1879 Queen Victoria ‘Bourne Head’ design 6d black-brown surcharged with a forged ‘1 Penny’ resembling Type 16. An upper marginal example which proves the surcharge is forged as Type 16 only occurs five times on row 4 of the setting (i.e. not marginal). There are also minor differences in the font used and the colour is too carmine. Nevertheless, a good attempt. The underlying stamp is very fine mint. Unusual. Ex the David Underwood collection.
