1905 16th August, manila printed envelope 'ON HIS MAJESTY'S SERVICE.', struck with crisp 'BRITISH ASSN / 16 AU 05 / C T' sc datestamp, further violet oval 'REGISTRAR UNIVERSITY/ OFFICIAL FREE' cachet alongside. Addressed on one J. Starke Browne, Reception Room, City Hall. Presumably containing the various invitations etc. for the tour. A RARE STRIKE.

Note: James Starke Browne was a member of the Overseas Party. On the northward journey, he along with eleven others, decided to trek using Cape Carts (rather than the train), in order to visit the site of General Cronje's capture at Paardeberg. He later wrote a book 'Through South Africa with the British Association', an account of his entire tour.
