1905 20th October, single page letter, embossed at upper right 'Newnham Grange, Cambridge.' Addressed to Mr. Pilling, and written by George Darwin 'Now that we (are) at home again it almost feels as if these crowded months are only an interesting dream'. Further thanking Pilling for all his services in making the trip work smoothly. Signed at base 'G H Darwin'. Together with envelope bearing somewhat mutilated GB KEVII 1d, addressed to Royal Observatory, Cape Town, arrival backstamp. An extraordinary survivor.

Note: Sir George Darwin was the second son of Charles Darwin. He was President of the British Association and in effect led the group to the Victoria Falls and the Opening of the Bridge there. The letter also refers to Sir William Wharton, who died of fever in Cape Town at the end of September, 1905.
