Undated single page letter 'Dear Madam, I should return in a favour if you want to sit as soon after twelve as possible instead of two. Truly yours, Alfd. Edwd. Chalon'. Together with a contemporary newspaper cutting announcing the passing of same in 1860.
Note: Alfred Edward Chalon painted the Coronation portrait of Queen Victoria in 1837. Engravings of this painting were later made for use on the postage stamps of several British colonies, including Natal |
