| 1878 (26th December), envelope addressed within the Cape to Aliwal North. Bearing a single 4d dull blue (SG 30) tied by a Barred Triangular Canceller with an ALICE (25 Dec) Dated Town Oval. With KING WILLIAMS TOWN (26 Dec) transit and BEDFORD (28 Dec) arrival datestamp, all struck on the front. The reverse with a FORT BEAUFORT (27 Dec) transit backstamp. Unusual to find mail dated on Christmas day. Very fine. |
