O694
1893 (26th September), official printed envelope addressed to Holland. With ‘IN DIENST, O.V.S.’ at upper right and ‘STAATS PRESIDENT, / Oranjevrijstaat.’ at lower left. The envelope appears to have been sent stampless and a BLOEMFONTEIN / O.V.S. (26 Sep) single circle datestamp was applied. It was then apparently stopped and ‘IN DIENST’ crossed through, probably indicating free postage did not apply to overseas destinations. A 4d ultramarine adhesive (SG 19) was affixed and tied by a POST WISSEL KANTOOR / BLOEMFONTEIN (27 Sep) single circle datestamp. London (23 Oct) transit and Groningen (24 Oct) arrival backstamps. Unusual.
