AM1226
Postal History / Anglo-Boer War period 1901 (3rd January and 16th April), pair of long, blue stampless official envelopes (225x96mm) both addressed to the ‘Station Paymaster / Bury / Lancashire / England’. Each with printed ‘ON HER MAJESTY’S SERVICE’ printed at top (as the later envelope was posted after the death of Queen Victoria, the word ‘Her’ has been changed to ‘His’ in manuscript). Each envelope also has ‘On The Public Service / S.Q.M.S. / For Station Payment / G. Branon ? / Cape Town’ handstamped in different styles in purple or blue and with authorizing signature ‘F.A. Hawes’. Bury (20 Jan and 2 May) arrival backstamps. A few edge faults, otherwise a fine and unusual pair.
