GRIQUALAND WEST / Postal History 1874 (16th April) piece ex an envelope addressed to Prague, Bohemia, bearing Cape of Good Hope 1d carmine-red (with interpanneau margin at left), 4d blue and 1/- green (SG 24a, 26a, 29), each tied by the distinct and short-lived ‘Lined Circular Bar Dumb Defacer’ (Goldblatt type G1) with a fine DU TOITS PAN (16 Apr) Dated Town Oval (without serifs) struck at left. London (22 May) transit struck in red. The 1d with some scuffing at top, otherwise a scarce example of use of Cape stamps used from the diamond fields some three years before the introduction of the ‘G’ overprints.
