1883 (July), QV incoming cover from England bearing 6d on 6d (SG 162) tied by Portsmouth (23 July) / '625' duplex. Addressed to 'Papendorp / near Cape Town'. Cape Town (16 Aug) transit and PAPENDORP (16 Aug) single circle arrival datestamps on reverse. Putzel rates Papendorp as 'RR' and states it was renamed Woodstock from 1st May 1883. However, this cover indicates the datestamp was still in use, at least as an arrival datestamp some months later. Grubby, though scarce. SG lists the GB stamp at £300 on cover.

1889 (January), cover addressed to England, bearing a QV ‘The Stamp Act’ 1d lilac revenue stamp, tied by ‘430’ Barred Oval Numeral Canceller with P.O. MOUNT AYLIFF (13 Jan) single circle datestamp alongside. Despite the use of a revenue stamp contrary to regulations, the cover was not taxed. Clean vetical fold at left, clear of the adhesive and markings. Unusual usage and a very scarce proving cover for this agency / BONC.

Anglo-Boer War 1899 (October), cover sent registered to Argentina bearing 1/6 postage, comprising 4 x ½d green, 6 x 1d and 4 x 2½d (SG 61, 59, 63), each cancelled / tied by OUDTSHOORN (16 Oct) single circle datestamps. The cover was damaged in transit and resealed on three sides with strips of brown ‘V. R. / FOUND OPEN AND / OFFICIALLY SEALED’ labels overlapping many of the stamps. Cape Town (18 Oct) and London (4 Nov) transits and Buenos Aires (3 Dec) arrival datestamps. A characterful cover to an unusual destination sent five days after the outbreak of war.

AC222 1912 (7th May), Interprovincial Period: Cape KEVII 1d Letter Card, posted en route to the Victoria Falls, upon entering the postal system cancelled at lower left 'MAHALAPYE SIDING' (Bechuanaland) and endorsed 'T2d', this then struck over with black circular '2d' cachet. Addressed to Port Elizabeth, then applied with 2d Transvaal due cancelled there on the 13th May. Written internally 'En route to Falls', and 'Forgotten so posting at Mahalapye', and on reverse 'The stupid boy had a Cape letter card instead of Rhodesian'. Light staining, most appealing.
