Miers was Professor of Mineralogy at the University of Oxford, Magdalen College and did indeed stayed with the Governor during the tour. A most unusual survivor. |

He later wrote a book 'Through South Africa with the British Association', an account of his entire tour. |

Note: Sir George Darwin was the second son of Charles Darwin. He was President of the British Association and in effect led the group to the Victoria Falls and the Opening of the Bridge there. The letter also refers to Sir William Wharton, who died of fever in Cape Town at the end of September, 1905. |
