AS549 1922 (4th December), underpaid incoming black and white photographic picture postcard from England (‘On the Mersey at New Brighton.’) bearing a KGV 1d tied by a London (4 Dec) datestamp. The card received a large ‘1½d’ tax marking and a rouletted 1½d black and yellow-brown postage due (SG D10) was affixed and tied by a triangular datestamp (DE 25 / 22) on Christmas day. SA1893 1938 29th September, envelope underpaid at 1d cancelled KALK BAY and addressed to London. Struck with violet 'PLEASE ADVISE YOUR CORRESPONDENT THAT THE LETTER RATE FROM THE UNION OF SOUTH AFRICA IS 1½ PER ½ OZ.', and further black circular 'T / 10 / CENTIMES' strike. Upon arrival British '1D' charge cachet and duly applied with 1d due. Attractive. £15

Further struck with black circular 'T 6D' cachet, although apparently no charge raised on this cover, most probably one of a pool charge. £20
SA1899 1961 February, three envelopes all posted unpaid and each struck with the same 'T' in oval cachet, and each with manuscript endorsement as to the relevant tax due. None apparently showing as this being collected, although as all to the same address, most likely a pool charge applied to all. £30

The envelope received a bilingual cachet ‘NIE STANDAARD GROOTTE NIE / NOT STANDARD SIZE / BOETE / SURCHARGE’ struck in red and a circular ‘T/10c’ taxe marking. The shortfall was receipted by a block of ten (5x2) 1c deep yellowish green postage dues (SG D75) which were affixed and tied by Newcastle (24 Mar) datestamps with a further strike (18 Mar) on the reverse. The postage was underpaid and the envelope received a circular ‘T/2c’ taxe marking and a 2c definitive was affixed at upper left, but left uncancelled. The envelope also shows bilingual ‘COUNTER DELIVERY’ and ‘SURCHARGE NOT COLLECTED’ cachets struck in red. Also bearing a 1984 ‘Prevent TB in Children’ label. £35
AS337 SOUTH AFRICA / Postage Dues 1985 (22nd May), incoming envelope from Zimbabwe, franked with 1c x2 and 9c definitives tied by a light Mt Pleasant (22 May) machine cancellation. The postage was underpaid and the envelope received a circular ‘T’ taxe marking struck in violet in Zimbabwe with ‘2/20’ inserted in red manuscript. A similar further circular marking with ‘6c’ added was applied in South Africa where two 3c postage stamps were affixed as dues and tied by a Randburg Depot (30 May) datestamp. The envelope also shows bilingual ‘COUNTER DELIVERY’ and ‘SURCHARGE NOT COLLECTED’ cachets struck in red. A further pair of 3c postage stamps was affixed to the reverse and tied by a Blairgowrie (5 Jun) datestamp, presumably for post office internal accounting purposes. £45
