T2759 1885 Queen Victoria ‘Bourne Head’ design 6d black-brown surcharged ‘TWEE PENCE / Z.A.R.’ in red. Upper left corner example, perforated between stamp and margin at top and imperforate to margin at left. Unobtrusive 4mm tear at foot, otherwise fine used with PRETORIA / Z.A.R. (25 MY / 86) single circle datestamp showing ‘8’ of year inverted. SG 191 Note: in ‘The Transvaal’ (page 577) Yardley states the Bourne Head issue was “rarely perforated outside the marginal stamps”. £35

NA594 1891 (17th November), incoming Natal QV ½d postal stationery card addressed to Johannesburg, uprated with an additional Natal QV ½d dull green adhesive (SG 97a), tied by a very fine CHARLESTOWN / NATAL (17 Nov) double circle datestamp. The reverse with printed heading ‘MANN & CO’ and list of destinations with rates of transport from Charlestown added in manuscript. With a very scarce LLANWARNE / Z.A.R (17 Nov) single circle transit and Johannesburg (19 Nov) arrival datestamps, both struck on the reverse. Very fine. An attractive and interesting card. SOLD
T2754 1902 (11th June), mourning envelope addressed to England. Bearing Transvaal ½d green and 2½d dull blue and green overprinted ‘V.R.I.’ (SG 226, 229). The envelope was posted in the Cape and shows a CAPE TOWN (11 Jun) squared circle datestamp alongside and not cancelling the adhesives. The stamps were deemed invalid and marked as such with a blue circle below each. The envelope was then taxed and received an octagonal ‘T/10c’ and a ‘2D / I.S./E’ (British Inland Section) handstamp. With an Exeter (2? Jun) arrival struck on the front. Unusual £45
